Psalm 150:3-6
“Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the LORD.”
The Worship Orchestra is for all high school age through senior adults who play an instrument. The purpose of the Worship Orchestra is to enhance our worship experience with all instruments and allow those with the talent of playing an instrument to be able to praise our Savior and Lord each week with their instruments. This group will be a vital part of our worship on Sunday mornings as well as Sunday evenings.
To be a member of the Worship Orchestra at FBA, one must possess a basic level of proficiency and possess a Godly attitude toward ministry. A basic level of proficiency refers to two years playing experience or current participation in instrumental instruction. A Godly attitude toward ministry is defined in two ways:
First, one must be teachable! The number of years one has studied on an instrument is by no means the only determining factor of musicianship in an individual. Nor is it justification for excluding individuals from serving in this particular capacity.
1 Chronicles 25:6-8 describes the temple orchestra as being comprised of both teacher and student.
Second, one must be accountable! Though performance can be enjoyable, being a temple musician is primarily and by all scriptural rights a calling. This calling requires consistent attention being given to the improvement of personal as well as corporate studies. Our role is serious in nature because it is defined as leadership within worship.
1 Chronicles 9:33 describes the duties of an instrumentalist as being so important as to exempt them from other duties in order that there might be measurable daily personal development. As a temple musician, players were held accountable for the use of their time in preparation for worship.
When you come to rehearsal, you don’t just bring your instrument. Your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experience make our orchestra a unique body. In music, the level of talent may vary widely, but the passion and desire is the same for all. Our desire is that Christ is honored, glorified, and exalted in all that we do and play because Christ is Center Stage! If you feel this is where you would like to use your gifts and talents, we would love for you to join us!
